Greetings Golden Pride Students and Parents, I am very excited to be the new instrumental music director at El Camino High School! The El Camino instrumental music program is a fine program with a strong history.
Mr. Lowery, the staff, students, and parents have done a tremendous job. My goal is to expand upon the success of the past, and then lead the program to even greater achievements in the future.
I have over twenty years of experience in instrumental music education: eight years as a percussion instructor and one year as an assistant band director at Rancho Buena Vista High School, one year as band director at Bernardo Heights Middle School, and eleven years as band director at Ramona High School. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in music composition from San Diego State University, and a Master’s Degree in conducting from Southern Oregon University. Through cooperation between staff, students, and parents, we were able to achieve great success at my most recent position, Ramona High School, and I intend on doing the same at El Camino.
My philosophy about the instrumental music program is threefold. First, the instrumental music program exists to provide students with high quality music education. Second, the program should endeavor to enrich El Camino High School and the Oceanside Community with performances. Third, the program should build strong character traits and develop leadership skills in each student.
The success of program hinges on the cooperation between three groups of stakeholders-staff, students, and parents. Cooperation between these three groups is essential to the success and achievement of the program.
I am very passionate about this philosophy and hope that it has struck a chord with all stakeholders. I look forward to striving for performance excellence, community enrichment, and student character development with all of you.
Daniel S. James
